Cabaret7potencias
(Cabaret7powers) is a Cuban Cabaret dance entertainment directed by Guillermo
Davis ‘el Iyawo’ choreographer, professional dancer and artistic
director from Guantantamo, Cuba Oriente the home of el Son and birthplace
of la Salsa. Performances are in spectacular tropical costume reflecting
1950’s Havana with tropical head-dresses, glitter, sequins and exotic
colour with the Cuban popular dances and music so popular today: Salsa,
Timba, Mambo, Bolero, Cha-cha-cha, Son, Rumba, Danzon, Conga. The group
was founded in Autumn 2004 and has performed for Nationwide, Barclays
and British Telecom Corporate events working with www.floriditalondon.com
(the Conran Cuban restaurant in Soho) and with www.musicworldwide.org
and at Coin Street Festival's Carnival de Cuba see www.coinstreetfestival.org
and
www.carnival-de-cuba.com
The full Cabaret program is of 25-30mins, (often as 2 sessions of approximately
15 minutes with a short break between sessions). Performances can be with
from 3 women dancers up to 6 women dancers with an optional performance
from Guillermo Davis 'el Iyawo'.
These additional options can be arranged:-
* Shorter performances
e.g. for 10 or 15 mins
* Dance and/or music
teaching workshops
* Performances
with Afro-Cuban folkloric dances
* Animation of social
dance with the guests
* Conga finale
led by Guillermo and dancers with guests participating
Cabaret7potencias performs to recorded music on CD and also collaborates
with musicians groups performing Salsa, Cuban Popular music, Conga, Folkloric
music such as Merengada, El Equipo, Rhythms of the City, Paseo Malanga
and with Egbe Ilu Bata, traditional Bata Yoruba/Afro-Cuban musicians.
The group performs with Egbe Ilu Bata as TROPICANITA an hour long show,
a fantastic mix of Cabaret dance and Afro-Cuban dance and music.
The title Cabaret7potencias (Cabaret7powers) refers to the Seven African
Powers of the Afro-Cuban religion well known in Cuban folklore.
